Daily Reading Workshop
Each day students read - really read - during reading workshop.
Mini Lesson (10-15 minutes): We start as a group on the mat to have a mini lesson about that day's skill or strategy. As we create our learning charts, they will be posted in your child's Office 365 Reading Notebook.
Independent Daily Reading (20 minutes): We call this IDR time. Students have their book bins next to them as they read - really read - for a minimum of 20 minutes. During this time, they are practicing the skills and strategies we have been learning as a class. They use sticky notes to jot down notes about the fleeting thoughts that go through their minds as they are reading.
Response to Reading (10 minutes): After the chimes ring to end our Independent Daily Reading, students pull out their IDR Binders and keep track of the books they are reading and respond to their daily reading. This is also where we keep track of the conferences they have with me.
Guided Reading & Reading Stations (40 minutes): During Guided Reading time, students meet in small groups to dive deep into a text with me. When they are not with me, they are in reading stations around the room practicing various reading, spelling, and writing skills.
